Signs

I love making things with stair spindles. Recently I made a batch of yard signs using spindles.  I have made them before and either sold them or given them away before I blogged about them.  The graphics are Picmonkied onto the picture during the editing proces.   I searched high and low but no chalk.  I know I had chalk at one point but none could be found.

Making the sign:
Step 1: It is easiest if you select a spindle that has a flat surface (face) at the top.  I am using spindles that I purchased at the Dallas Restore last summer.
Step 2:  Cut the board.  I used a 8 inch wide plank.  I usually cut them 18 inches long.  I find it easier when I get the lumber to cut a number of the boards at one time.  I also make these out of scrap lumber.
Step 3:  I attach the board to the spindle using a drill and screws.  I then fill in the recessed drill hole and sand it smooth when dry.
Step 4: I attach the finial and then paint.  The chalk board paint is added last.
I had to work in the kitchen this week because the mosquitos were so bad on the patio and it the garage.   I maybe a slight hypochondriac and mosquito bites always make me worry that West Nile is just around the corner.
I try to make several at a time and have some on hand.  You never know when you will need a sign.

After using Picmonkey to add graphics to this sign I wish I had a Cricket (or other such machine) so I could cut vinyl letters.  Oh well, not until at least November for that dream to become real.
I am going to party with:
